Registration for SheTech Explorer Day now open
Registration is now open for the third annual SheTech Explorer Day, an event to introduce more than 1,000 high school girls in grades 9-12 to programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
This year the event is sponsored by Ancestry.com and the STEM Action Center, and hosted by Utah Valley University and the Women Tech Council. It aims to create a safe and fun environment that encourages young women to explore opportunities in STEM fields.
Numerous technology companies will have displays set up featuring interactive projects for participants to discover throughout the day. Girls will spend the day involved in different workshops, which they choose. Areas of study include aerodynamics, forensics, robotics and digital animation.
“We want young women to not only see the vast range of opportunities but also that it is more about creativity and problem solving than about math,” said Angela Trego, assistant professor of technology management. “We continue to make this event bigger and better each year. We have more companies involved, new workshops and a fun design challenge that participants won’t want to miss.”
Registration for SheTech Explorer Day is open to the public, and the conference is free. Registration closes Feb. 26. The event will be held at the UCCU Center, and will take place on March 11 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For more information, visit shetechexplorer.com.
